Canary Islands airports close February with almost 14% more passengers

Canary Islands airports were used in February by 3.23 million passengers, 13.8 percent more than in the same month of 2015, according to data released today by the public company Aena. In this growth of almost 14 percent contributed both passengers on international lines, which rose 11.2 percent to 2.24 million, and, above all, travelers on domestic routes, which increased by 19, 3 percent, reaching 931,037. The airports of the archipelago with more passenger traffic in February, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, with 1,036,836 (+13.4%) and 869,061 (+ 12.2%), respectively, which places them in the third positions and fourth throughout the Aena network. They are followed Lanzarote airport with 489,032 travelers (+10.6%); Fuerteventura, with 433,377 (+19,3%); Tenerife Norte, 304,316 (+18,2%); La Palma, with 84,511 (+12.6%); El Hierro, with 11,353 (+ 1.5%); and La Gomera, with 2,242 passengers (+ 18.4%). As regards the number of operations, Canary Island airports recorded 27,958 flights, 8.3% more than in February 2015. Of the total commercial flights (26,686), 13,849 were international (+9.6%) and 12,837 national (+9.1%). Freight traffic was transported 2,780 tons, 2.8% below the same period of 2015. In the first two months of the year, they have passed through the Canary Island airports 6.51 million passengers, 12.1 percent more than in the same period of 2015, of which 1.87 million were domestic flights, 18 percent, and 4.53 million worldwide, 9.5 percent more.
